Day 4, Nesebar-Varna
  • Breakfast.
  • Tour /walking/ in the old town of Nessebar.

Nessebar – One of the oldest towns in Europe is situated on a beautiful small peninsula in the Black sea, 37 km northeast of Bourgas and 430 away from Sofia. Its name means Town (bria) of Melsa.
The Nessebur beach is said to be the best along the Bulgarian Black sea coast. Today the town is one of the most popular sea resorts in Bulgaria.
The old town is included in UNESCO list of cultural monuments with world importance. The old buildings were restored and new ones were built in the same old style.
There are about 30 churches in Nessebur. Not all of them have their previous splendour, but they are still very impressive:
The Old bishopric – the church “Sveta Sofia” (5 c.), the New bishopric – the church “Sveti Stefan” (10-11 c.), the church “Sveta Paraskeva” (13-14 c.), the church “Hristos Pantokrator” (14 c.) – an art gallery today, the church “Sveti Ioan Aliturgetos” (13-14 c.) – a masterpiece of Bulgarian church architecture.
Impressive architectural monuments are also the old house in Nessebur, built in the typical 16-19 century style.
